MoCA (Los Angeles)

Moca in Los Angeles has an airy atmosphere about it. All their exhibited works are displayed on the first level. When I walked in I was surprised how many modernist paintings there were in the room. I saw Rothko and then some other works which directly used people’s faces as a parameter for success. A lot of these works had a literary bent adhering themselves to grammars. There was some dreamy aspect to it like how scenes of urban environment and vehicles were romanticized by the black and white photographs. It made people yearn for a different life than now. It questioned their knowledges about foreign countries such as China. It had a certain depth to it. People looked at them and always in some sort of shocks. It made me think about how big Los Angeles was. It made its spaciousness a proactive part of urban evolution and revolutions. The videos were mostly static. They had a lot of faces. I think it was telling a story about loss, getting lost and ruminating on those loss. Etc.
