A girl, called yun Li, had found out about her heritage. It attracted jealousy in schools. Her schoolmates killed her pretending it was a protest against government. This is a story about the moments before and after.
Yun Li stood on the train track. She searched for her iPhone. Then she found it glistening beneath the track. She digged it up and then crawled up to the subway station. People glared at her. She was only 15 years old that year, 2019. She lived in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Her mother let her come back from a shelter, a girls’ home after being promised government subsidies. She held her phone tightly against herself breathing deep. People’s glares transformed into stares. What’s so great about yun Li was her beautiful face looking plainly radiant like a sculpted porcelain and her mild temperament. She didn’t seem to be mad about these people all around her. Her eyes wandered and saw a beggar sitting on the subway floor singing and staring too. Yun Li searched her shopping bag. She found a piece of cake. It was purchased from a small and not famous bakery in tsim sha Tsui. They packed the cake into a transparent plastic case. She gave the cake to the beggar. Yun Li said, “here. You should have some of this.” The beggar was a man. He took the cake, “you are so kind, miss.” Etc.
