Father, Kuomintang

I remember when my father, Chen Shangwen, was drinking alcohol, he would talk about his childhood, lineage and father. I remember it clearly that he said his father or grandfather was Kuomintang, and landlords of fabulous land and wealth. However after the communist party gained power, they were punished. Even going to the hospital was banned somehow. His father had to sign on the paper with a fake name so they wouldn’t think their components were impure. He talked about how during June 4th, one of his colleagues at Hainan University would swim to the shore of Hong Kong in order to escape the communist party. He was promptly arrested right after. These stories had instilled in me a passionate feeling towards democracy, independence and politics. Now he passed away, I commemorate him everyday through writing. Etc.
