Yuling Chen is a Chinese Canadian new media artist. She is specialized in making works about beauty, labour and racial tensions using media archives exploring histories of new media art. She was born in 1990 on the southern small island of China, Hainan Island, in the city of Danzhou. When she was young she led a nomadic life moving from cities to cities, homes to homes and places to places. Thus, she had discovered her love in literature, obsession with identity, and eyes for design.
My mother came to visit me in 2023. I chose to live with her after i spent some time at Canadian mental health association housing. Later she started to apply for asylum and permanent residence. We have been living together ever since. She told me it’s Xiaodan Wang and Alex Banman contacted her in China. It made me realize they probably didn’t know what to do at first. Now I’m still living with my mother. Etc.
