Yuling Chen is a Chinese Canadian new media artist. She is specialized in making works about beauty, labour and racial tensions using media archives exploring histories of new media art. She was born in 1990 on the southern small island of China, Hainan Island, in the city of Danzhou. When she was young she led a nomadic life moving from cities to cities, homes to homes and places to places. Thus, she had discovered her love in literature, obsession with identity, and eyes for design.
the static and noise exhibition at gallery 44 is a portrait of the artist in mental crisis. The static imageries reveal the obsession with body parts and languages which communicate the artists’ psychologies and meanings. Walking around the exhibition a sense of crisis has deepened as the images become the memo of the memories in disarray. It has remade and unmade the dressing up of the crisis as an aesthetic exploration of past and ancestries. Etc.
