I got a feeling those classmates of mine from my previous universities and schools, OCAD university, Upei and Sichuan university, such as qirou yang, lifan Zhou, chuyao fang, Xiaodan wang, and wang zi are all arrested and in jails. I felt no remorse of whatsoever. It must be because of Hong Kong protests. They must have done terrible stuff that got them in these places. In 2017 I did a performance art project called birth-ing. I saw the looks on everybody, xi Cheng, lifan Zhou, Olivia da costa, larrisa yeung, Colin rosati, etc. , with real jealousy and envy. Birth-ing is an artwork deconstructing Wonder Woman’s three classic gestures and the pop iconography. I threw the long hdmi cable like a lasso. It was an inspired moment that got me to make these works. I also investigated Foucault which already had a lot of jail stuff. After graduation, people dispersed and lost touch. During the pandemic, I did exact same thing with other images, imagery and on screen performance in various places and jails included. I didn’t have money. But that sustained me. Works. I wonder what these classmates that they used to be would do in jails. Are they constantly in jails? Etc.
