Queen bees are making people in Ontario’s quintessential city, Scarborough, crazy. When you go outside you find yourself in nature’s mercy. Honey bees and wasps swarmed about in the summers. A black woman was working in her yard. She saw me and she waved hello. There were flowers everywhere. In their gardens. In the patches. Bees made dances erotic. They flew between plants looking for food. In the dusk they were busy going back to their hives to tend to queen bees which had special scents calming the worker bees. I borrowed a book from the library about beekeeping. It talked napoleon and his wife Josephine. How their clothes were embroidered with bees. The trees grew delicious fruits in the summer. The raspberries were sweet and you could find it in nearby ravines. Etc. In any scientific reviews people try to preserve the colony by lowering the importance of queen bees in the hives. They often talked about her much discussed need to access to food and shelters in special cells. The scientists cannot emphasize enough how worker bees control the colonies in order to lower the death rate of queen bees and the future bees. It’s not trying to make people attack worker bees. It’s trying to put off the superstitions often surrounding the hierarchy of bees and their hives.
