Since being selected for the global experience project in 2017 at OCAD University meeting the famous artist and filmmaker, Isaac Julien, I have entered the world of older people, old people, men, women, gay and lgbtq +. Their interests have become my interests be it pension, glam, benefits, or traveling the world. I found this utterly fascinating. My assignments for the GEP were literally videos made after reading obscure critical texts, discussion about Isaac Julien’s works and traveling to the United Kingdom and the United States. I could crudely drawn up a map of my travels and things, deaths and griefs I have been dealing with since then. It was eye opening to have my works exhibited and published around the same year by old/ older people, men, women and lgbtq+. I went to the New York City in the same year right before September with my peers, lifan Zhou and Doris djoleka. That was my first time traveling to the city. I could suddenly feel the gulf between me and two of them. Their jealous eyes trace me and how I moved. I felt an unsettling energy surround me at that moment of meeting them outside of Toronto on travels. They were basically strangers to me. The city felt closer. It was almost like an older friend as we went to museums after museums to discover the newest and trendiest thing in nyc. I was elated. Etc.
